All new students begin enrollment online. This step helps families determine whether their student will attend their neighborhood school or apply for a choice program.

• Students living inside PSD boundaries are assigned to their school of residence.
• If needed: Use the PSD Boundary Map to verify your school of residence.
• Continue to step 2 if your student's enrollment scenario is not one of the following:
  • New In-District Student
  • New Out-of-District Student
  • PSD alternative learning experience (ALE) or choice school

New In-District Transfer Requests

• New students residing within the Puyallup School District (PSD) Boundary who wish to attend a PSD school outside of their neighborhood school boundary must:

1. Submit an In-District Transfer Request: 2025-26 In-District Transfer Request: Current School Year
2. Wait for approval
3. Complete online enrollment (Steps 2-3)

New Out-of-District Applicants

• New students who live outside the PSD Boundary who wish to attend a PSD School must:
  1. Submit an out-of-district waiver: 2025-26 Out-of-District Waiver for New Applicants
  2. Wait for PSD Waivers Department approval
  3. Once approved, complete Steps 2–3

PSD Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) and Choice School Options

Puyallup Digital Learning (PDL) Programs

PDL offers two flexible, Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) options:

Puyallup Parent Partnership Program (P4): Grades K-8

• P4 is designed for families who want a blend of home-based and online learning.
  • Monthly community outings
  • Flexible schedules that support unique learning needs
  • Monthly in-person learning opportunities
    • Grades K–5: Online, video-based instruction with certificated teacher support
    • Grades K–8: Home-based, parent-led instruction

Puyallup Online Academy (POA): Grades 6-12

• POA is a fully online, independent learning environment for grades 6–12.
• Students benefit from:
  • Self-paced coursework
  • Support from certificated teachers
  • Optional in-person study halls
  • A flexible schedule that supports academic and personal needs

PDL Programs Enrollment Status and Process

• For Current PSD Students
  • Enrollment for PDL programs is closed for current students
  • Families with unique circumstances should contact their school counselor
  • Counselors may submit referrals to be reviewed by the PDL team
  • Acceptance depends on space and program capacity
     
• New Students (Currently Not Enrolled in PSD)
  • Enrollment for PDL programs is closed until second semester
  • PDL will begin reviewing pre-enrollment surveys and applications on January 28, 2026 (Submissions received before that date are held; families contacted in mid-January)
  • New In-District Students: If accepted into a PDL Program, families will complete steps 2-3 of new student enrollment
  • New Out-of-District Students:
    1. Complete the PDL pre-enrollment survey
    2. PDL reviews eligibility based off the survey results
    3. If accepted, digital enrollment documents are sent to the family

Walker High School: Grades 9-12

• Walker High is a small, supportive high school environment with:
  • Strong relationship-building
  • Personalized learning pathways
  • Flexible graduation options

Designed for students who benefit from nontraditional supports.

Puyallup Open Doors (POD): Ages 16-21

• Puyallup Open Doors (POD) is a reengagement program supporting young adults who:
  • Are behind in high school credits
  • Need flexible scheduling
  • Balance school with work and/or family
  • Need support to complete a diploma or prepare for the GED
• Students receive:
  • Case management
  • Academic support
  • Goal planning
  • Pathways to diploma or GED completion

Enrollment Process for Walker High and POD

• Schedule an Interview with Walker High Principal Michael Sanchez
  • Walker High: Email Heather Clarey
  • Puyallup Open Doors (POD): Email Shannon Jimenez
• Receive Acceptance Decision: Families are notified after the interview.
• If Accepted: Complete Remaining New Student Enrollment Process 
• • In-District: complete steps 2-3
  • Out-of-District: Submit Choice transfer request. After approval, complete steps 2-3

Once your enrollment option is determined, continue to Steps 2–3 to complete new student registration.

Most families will need proof of residency, immunization records, and basic student information; additional forms may be required depending on grade level or student needs.

Proof of Residency

Complete the Verification of Residency Form and provide one of the following documents: 

• Escrow papers, mortgage statement, or HOA fee statement
• Lease or rental agreement with current rent receipt
• Landlord letter on apartment complex or mobile home park letterhead
• Utility bill (gas, electric, water, cable TV, garbage, or landline phone)
• Homeowner or renter’s insurance statement
• Verification of social services
• Verification of living with another person (that person must also be listed as a contact on the Enrollment Form)

Proof of Age (Required for New Kindergarten and 1st Grade Students Only)

• Birth certificate
• Adoption records
• Physician-certified documents
• Certificate of Immunization/Shot records listing birthdate

If your child does not have a birth certificate and was born in Washington State, you can request one from the Washington State Department of Health Vital Records.

Washington State Immunization Requirements for School Enrollment

• Washington state law requires all students to be fully immunized before registering for public school.
• Families must complete the Immunization Record Form and provide proof of the following vaccines:
• Diphtheria
• Tetanus
• Pertussis (whooping cough)
• Polio
• Measles
• Mumps
• Rubella
• Hepatitis B
• Varicella (chickenpox)

Academic Records (Grades 9-12)

An official transcript is recommended to help staff place your student in the right classes and support a smooth transition.

Additional Required Forms

• OSPI Home Language Survey - Helps schools identify students who may need support developing English language skills for classroom success. It also determines if students may qualify for additional services. (English | Korean | Punjabi | Spanish | Russian | Ukrainian | Other Languages)
   
• Student Housing Questionnaire - Helps determine if a student’s housing situation qualifies them for additional support and services under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
   
• Student Health History - History of the student's health
  • Students with life-threatening conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, severe allergies) - Please contact your new school nurse as soon as possible to create an Emergency Action Plan for the school year. Washington State law requires that a medication, treatment, and/or healthcare plan is in place prior to starting school.

Additional Forms (If Applicable)

• Title VI (506) Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form - Grandchildren or children of those affiliated with a Native American tribe.
   
• IEP/504 documentation -  Parents/legal guardians of special needs students will need to provide a copy of current IEP/Special Education Evaluation and any other relevant evaluative information and medical documentation.
   
• Exchange of Confidential Information form - Authorizes the Puyallup School District to request your student’s special education records, evaluations, and service plans from their previous school or district.

Once you have gathered the required documents, continue to Step 3 to complete the online registration form.

PSD uses an online enrollment system (PowerSchool) to complete new student registration.

You can save your progress and return later if you need more time to gather documents.

First-Time PowerSchool Users

• Create a PowerSchool Enrollment account - English | Russian | Spanish | Ukrainian
• Complete the online registration form
• Upload all required documents

Returning PowerSchool Users

Returning users include families who previously enrolled a student in PSD or started an enrollment in the past.

  • Use “Forgot Password” if needed

The New Student Enrollment process is the step-by-step procedure families follow to register their child for school in the district. At Puyallup School District, new students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are enrolled accessing PowerSchool, where families can complete registration for the upcoming school year conveniently and securely online.

New student registration typically opens in early February for the next school year, and families should begin submitting required information for their child’s grade level.

When you begin the online enrollment process for your child in the Puyallup School District, you will be asked to upload or provide several key documents that help verify residency, age, health requirements, and academic placement.

• Proof of Residency
• Proof of Age (for Kindergarten and First Grade)
• Immunization Records
• Academic Records (Grades 9–12)

Puyallup School District offers the following Pre-K programs for children that will not be five until after August 31st for the upcoming school year.

• Puyallup Early Entrance to Kindergarten (PEEK) is a free program for children with a birthdate between  September 1-30 to be considered for early entrance to kindergarten if they meet certain requirements. Washington State law requires that children must be at least five years of age on or before August 31 to enroll in kindergarten.
   
• Transition to Kindergarten (formerly Kindergarten Academy) is a free program designed to assist young learners who would benefit from additional support to be successful in kindergarten. This free program is available to families who meet our program requirements.
   
• Special Education - For children who are not yet kindergarten age and have been receiving special education services on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) such as speech therapy or developmental preschool, please contact the District's Special Services and Programs office at (253)841-8700.

After special education eligibility has been confirmed, you will be given registration and enrollment information.

Use the online boundary map tool to verify your attending area school. 

If additional assistance is needed, please call the district administrative offices at (253)-841-1301. Provide the receptionist with your home address and grade level of your student. From there you’ll be directed to the school where you’ll register your student.

 

Parents of students receiving special education services will be asked to complete a few additional forms, including an Exchange of Confidential Information. This form allows the district to request your student’s special education records from their previous school. All necessary forms will be provided during the registration process.
